Benjamin F. Weaver
Triptych #1
May 2010
Acrylic on Matboard
18" x 28"
In the upper left portion of this piece you may notice a dark blue shape that seems to disappear underneath a larger light blue shape. This is in fact a dark blue shape that runs up against a light gray shape surrounded by light blue. The dark blue picks up again on the other side of the light blue, because of this there is optical confusion.

This piece also has three dimensional shapes that come in and out of focus. I intentionally painted through and against three shapes that work across the three panels. I didn't think I would mention what they were to the public, but as the painter I thought that it would be hard for me not to see these spheres. Instead I have to look for them each time I view the painting. This balance between two dimensional painting and three dimensional forms is what I seek to explore in this series of work.
