As a process oriented artist I start with a general concept, material, and structure of a piece. I then develop forms within that context. In this piece the concept of my sisters, father, and myself were represented through four panels. My mother was represented through the carving of the piece.
This references the loss and influence my mother had on our family in her recent passing.
In terms of technical procedure the main element to size and material was the availability of free slightly used plywood, and a format for the work to be shown. Using those constraints helped me to focus the limitations to the piece. The carving is the intuitive nature of my sculpture.
